Senator VDL was bred at the world renowned VDL stud in Holland. He is owned in partnership with VDL and his bloodlines are some of the finest available presently in Europe.  It is a privilege to have him stand here in New Zealand.

Impeccable Dam Line

Senator VDL has an impeccable family on both sides. His dam is Falonie by Voltaire (Team Nijhof) out of a Nimmerdor mare.  She is the sister of two international showjumpers Charly and Gyltaire. Gyltaire, also by Voltaire, a full relation to Falonie, is ridden internationally by Michael Whitaker.

Two of Falonies offspring, Lacota and Glory Days are both International Grand Prix Show Jumpers in the USA. Another son Placido, is an approved Stallion with the KWPN, and was performance champion of his year in the Autumn Examinations 2000. All her progeny have jumped over 1.30m.

His great grand dam Molga was a sister to two Olympic horses. Linky and The Shinto, both competed at the 1984 Olympics in L.A.

Senator VDL’s dam, grand dam and great grand dam are all “keur” mares. Keur is a very high ranking predicate that is only awarded to quality mares that have produced satisfactory offspring and have passed selection performance tests. On his dam’s side, he has the famous sires, Voltaire and Nimmerdor which are preferent stallions. A very high honor for sires that are bestowed as famous progenitors.

By the VDL sire Corland

His Sire, the VDL stallion Corland (Keur), has had an impressive career under Wout-Jan van der Schans. He jumped regularly on the Dutch Nation's Cup Team, and was very successful on the international circuit. He is now one of the top breeding stallions at VDL Stud.

Corland himself is a credit to his background in every way. In two breeding seasons, he has produced three licensed  sons, namely; Pacific, Sir Corland and Silverstar. Pacific and Sir Corland were Champions of their Stallion Tests.  A son of Corland won the 5 yr old title at the World Young Horse Championships at Lanaken.

His daughter VDL Pendence had the highest mare test of 2001 with 87.5 pts. His son Cor de Son won the World Championships for 5 yr old jumpers; and his daughter Universe Miss was Dutch Filly Champion. Whether at mare selections, or in Sport, Corland’s progeny always come in front positions.

Grandsire Cor de La Bryere

Corland’s sire, Cor de la Bryere is recognised in Europe as a foundation breeding sire. Corland's dam line is one of the best in Holstein , which starts with Retina, who won the Hamburg Derby twice.  This lineage has produced numerous stallions and both National and International Sport Horses.

Producing Olympic progeny

SENATOR VDL is producing foals with correct conformation, lovely heads and a strong topline and hindquaters. The progeny out competing are scopey and careful and show promise as competitive sporthorses, both in showjumping and eventing.

Senator VDL is sire of the top New Zealand eventing horse, Balmoral Sensation, who was placed 5th at the Badminton Horse Trials 2016 and 6th at the Rio Olympics.

Senator VDL - Outstanding performance career

Senator VDL had multiple wins and placings throughout his jumping career. He competed through to when he was an 8yo, when he was retired due to injury.
